Abstract

Diagnostic fracture injection tests are used to estimate stress, permeability, and pore pressure. A small volume of fluid is injected (7–100+ bbl at 1–15 bpm), and then the well is shut-in for several days or weeks. Injection creates a hydraulic fracture, which closes during shut-in. The pressure transient is analyzed to estimate the formation properties.
